Nathan has been in the hospitality industry since he was just 18 and has worked in all areas of the business. Before joining Metropolis, he spent 12 years working for the Stonegate Pub Company, working his way up from bar staff to team leader, then up to deputy manager and finally becoming public house general manager at 28.
After working in the pub industry for several years Nathan decided he wanted to switch up his career and move into restaurant management. This gave him the opportunity to work as restaurant manager at Marco Pierre White’s in Birmingham.
When Metropolis offered him the chance to run an amazing new restaurant in the heart of the city centre it was an opportunity he couldn’t turn down. Nathan brings his unique blend of talent and experience to Metropolis, with the aim of making it one of the most exciting venues in the West Midlands!
Phil has worked in the hospitality industry since the age of 19 where he started out as a Commis Chef. During this time he studied part-time at Henley College to gain his City & Guilds qualifications.
At the age of at 24 Phil progressed to Head Chef and was part of a team opening new restaurants across Coventry and Warwickshire whilst supporting other Head Chefs with their training and progression.
The support Phil gave to other Head Chefs fuelled his passion for helping and training young people in the industry. When the opportunity arose to work at Metropolis it was an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Phil said: “What really interested me in Metropolis was the opportunity to work for an independent restaurant, which provides a life-affirming opportunity for unqualified young people, not in education, employment or training to gain qualifications and experience and turn their lives around.
“Metropolis allows me to train, support and develop the skills of individuals looking to work in hospitality, whether they want to become a Kitchen Porter or have the aspiration to become a Head Chef I will help them every step of the way!”
All the team are very excited about this opportunity to help young people at the same time helping to build back an industry which has been significantly damaged by COVID.
